wintering geese & swans

The Netherlands is well-known for its large flocks of West-palearctic goose and swan species which frequent its lowlands during migration and winter. About 1 million geese and swans are present in winter.

From November to February the northern province of Friesland provides a good opportunity for us to observe tens of thousands of geese, such as: the White-fronted Goose, Graylag Goose, Barnacle Goose, Pink-footed Goose and some varieties of Bean Goose and Brent Goose.

During this excursion other species may include: Whooper, Bewick’s and Mute Swan, Pintail, Wigeon, Goldeneye, Smew, Hen Harrier, Merlin, Peregrine, Kestrel, Golden Plover, Hooded Crow, Fieldfare and Redwing.
