northern coast

The northern coast of the province of North-Holland gives us the opportunity to meet coastal birds: waders, terns and gulls.

We visit the former Island of Wieringen, especially the northern part, bordering on the Wadden Sea.

In winter large numbers of various coastal species stay here. As late as June different types of northern waders, ducks, tern and gulls can be seen here. Early autumn migration can be observed here with large numbers of Black Terns and Common Terns. In August they back and forth from their feeding grounds to their sleeping grounds.

Other species to be expected here in the right season: Brent Goose, Barnacle Goose, Gull-billed Tern, Little Grebe, Grey Heron, Spoonbill, Sparrow Hawk, Hobby, Green Sandpiper, Wood Sandpiper, Little Gull, Caspian Tern, Partridge.
